If you rent your home or condo, you may wonder whether you really need tenant’s insurance. The reality is though that going without insurance can prove to be very risky.
Most tenants know that landlords have insurance on their buildings, but tenant’s also need to be aware that a landlord’s insurance doesn’t cover your personal belongings if they’re lost or damaged in a fire or by some other type of insured claim.
While you may not think you have a lot of property to protect, it’s surprising how quickly it adds up when you consider all of your possessions.
Perhaps more importantly, tenant’s insurance also provides you with liability coverage. This is critical because as a tenant you may be held liable for any damage you cause to your building. You could also be held liable for unintentional harm caused to others who live in or visit the property.
When it comes to tenant insurance, our team knows how to save you money and even more ways to protect you and avoid any dangerous insurance gaps.

As a tenant you are responsible for damage you cause to any part of the building in which you live and for any injury or harm you cause to others living in or visiting the building.
Your tenant’s insurance policy will include liability coverage with a limit starting at $1,000,000. This coverage may help protect you financially if you unintentionally cause property damage or bodily injury to others. Higher limits are available and recommended.
Your policy will also cover any court costs, lawyers’ fees and other expenses associated with your defence in the event of a covered claim.
A standard tenant’s insurance policy DOES NOT cover high value items such as expensive jewellery and collectables. If you want these item insured, you will need to purchase additional coverage.
